Although Britain is discussing an agreement for immigrants, like Italy with Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama seems not to give this opportunity .
"They should not look to the Balkan country for a partner", said Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to Euronews .
"This is an exclusive agreement with Italy, because we love everyone, but with Italy we have unconditional love", said Rama, speaking on Thursday in the European Parliament.
His repeated warning comes days after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said her British counterpart Keir Starmer had expressed "great interest" in the scheme.
Albania is offering a pragmatic solution, explained Rama.
"We decided to make this immigration deal based on a sense of responsibility as neighbors, as Europeans," he said, while adding " Of course it's better than just fighting ideologically on this issue and doing nothing ."
According to the five-year agreement reached between Tirana and Rome last November, migrants caught at sea by Italian authorities will be transferred to reception centers near the Albanian port of Shengjin, where their requests for international protection will be quickly processed by Italian personnel and then they will be placed in the Gjadri asylum seeker center with a capacity of up to 3,000 people.
