After the conclusion of the Assembly's proceedings, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a press conference, emphasizing that this political force has great potential to restore free voting and win over the opposition.
He appreciated the discussions held in the Assembly and considers them a sign of renewal and change within the DP.
"To achieve its objective, the return of free voting to Albanians and the victory of the opposition, the potential is great. The will is iron, so I pledge to the democrats and the opposition that with great dedication we will do everything to turn into action, to concretize the determinations and promises of this Assembly, so that the DP can move forward determinedly and fulfill its mission.
"I followed the discussions with great interest. I am encouraged by them, the opinions that were expressed, so if you will read the unreadable, what the atmosphere of the hall had, it was the renewal and change in defined directions of the DP," he said.
Berisha thanked the participants while emphasizing that the competition between candidates is dignified and that everyone remains an asset to the party regardless of the result, also guaranteeing transparency in the vote counting.
"So I thank you for following the proceedings of this Assembly, which I would call in many respects, an extremely important Assembly. The truth is that with a normal, if not perfect, development, let's await the results of the votes, which, if I'm not mistaken, will begin at 8 pm.
Here I want to guarantee, of course, that when there are more than two candidacies for a seat, one wins, the other does not, but I emphasize one thing, that in my assessment, those were the most dignified candidacies that have ever existed.
Secondly, regardless of whether they receive votes or not, each of them remains a valuable asset to the DP.
"Thirdly, anyone who has the slightest doubt will have the opportunity to count their votes," he said.
In his speech, the Democratic Party leader stated that the participants in the meeting held by Ervin Salianji on Friday, May 29, "are not part of the Democratic Party."
"Those who were and spoke have long since separated from the Democratic Party, or have never been with the Democratic Party.
"No democrat there was absolutely following the DP," he said.
"Whoever follows Salianji settles scores with the DP," Berisha further emphasized.
Asked if all this is some kind of exclusion against critics, Berisha denied it.
