The Foreign Minister of Greece, Nikos Dendias, met this Monday in Brussels with his Albanian counterpart, Olta Xhaçka.
The news was made known by the Greek diplomat himself through a post on Twitter, where he announced that during the meeting they discussed the arrest two days before the elections of the "Together We Win" coalition candidate for Himara, Fredi Beleri, who managed to win the elections.
"Following today's #EU #FAC meeting in #Brussels, FM Nikos Dendias met with his Albanian counterpart Olta Xhaçka. During the discussion, the issue of the elected mayor of Himare Municipality, Fredi Beleri, was raised", writes Dendias.
Then there was a reaction on social networks from Olta Xhaçka, who wrote that she made it clear to the Greek minister that "Beleri" is a court case that should not affect the bilateral relations between Albania and Greece.
"Brussels, the meeting with my friend and colleague, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Dendias, was a very good opportunity to discuss the "Beleri" case. I clearly emphasized that this is a court case that should not affect the site new that we have opened in our bilateral relations. This is neither a Human Rights issue, nor a political one, and no longer a bilateral issue. Mr. Beleri enjoys the same rights as any other Albanian citizen and no Albanian citizen is above the law. Vote buying is a serious violation of our law and his case is already in court. The only thing we all can do is wait patiently for the process to take its course and not prejudge or guess it." - writes Xhaçka.
