As the official results of the European elections are awaited in Greece, the Greek minority in Himara has started the celebration, as Fredi Beleri will most likely be a deputy in the new European Parliament.
Although he is behind bars in the prison of Fier, where he is serving the sentence of Albanian justice for buying and selling votes, Beleri seems to have rewarded the trust of the Hellenic Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, since with 2473 votes he is ranked as the third most voted in the ranks of "New Democracy" ".
With the announcement of the 7 preliminary winning names by the Greek Ministry of the Interior, the camera of the Open television was connected directly to Himara, where it seems that the party started by Beler's family and representatives of the Greek minority.
Colleagues of Beleri told the Greek media that the elected mayor of Himara will give a message from prison today, while the head of PBDNJ, Vangjel Dule said that today is a great night of joy for the city.
"There is certainty that Fredi will be an MEP. It's a big night for Himara. This is a vindication of Beler, for the eternal struggles of all Hellenism. History is written in golden letters", he said.
Regarding Beler's release from prison, in case he has to be present in the European Parliament to be sworn in, there is no need for an oath procedure as far as MEPs are concerned.
However, a meeting will take place on July 16, where Beleri will need special permission to attend.
