Greek MEP in the European Parliament, Fredi Beleri, criticized Albania during today's meeting of the Petitions Committee, saying that it is "systematically violating the rights of Greek minorities."

Beleri stated that every Greek family in Albania has problems with their properties and since the change of system 34 years ago they have still not managed to obtain the property titles. He said that they face delays in the country's courts, even going further as he attacked the vetting process in our country, calling it a "dark process".

Representatives of the European Commission responded to Beleri's criticism, stating that the first pre-negotiation package with the EU clearly states the criteria that our country must meet to join the EU, including property rights.

Beleri further said that he wants Albania to be a state of law, while criticizing the judiciary for imprisoning opposition political figures. He said that the EU “should not make concessions” to Albania.

We recall that Fredi Beleri is a former candidate for the Municipality of Himara, convicted three times by final decision, twice in Albania and once in Greece, for illegal possession of weapons, vote theft and denigration of national symbols.
