Today, the National Assembly of the DP was held, where the daughter of the former prime minister, Sali Berisha, was present among others.
The participation of Berisha's daughter, Argita Malltezi, has attracted attention in the proceedings of the National Assembly, as it is the first time that the daughter of the former prime minister has appeared publicly in a party forum.
Asked by journalists later, Ms. Malltezi clarified that active participation in politics is not in her plans. The daughter of the former prime minister clarified that she has always been part of the DP, but that she has no ambition for more.
The same attitude was taken by Sali Berisha himself when he was asked by journalists.
"Argita Malltezi gave a speech like many others there. Argita Malltezi is an activist of the DP, since in the first days of its establishment, she was a student. In this context, it has never been separated from DP. This is her first public speech at the party assemblies, but this does not mean anything more than a speech in which she expressed her own thoughts as a PD activist, "said Berisha.
During her speech, she stated that political rights are essential for the exercise of economic freedoms.
"Poverty has increased tremendously and competes with crime. We made a mistake somewhere. Each of us tried hard and order towards economic security, but we forgot a lesson of history that we have experienced, political rights are essential for the exercise of economic freedoms. If we allow their limitation we risk re-falling into a dictatorship similar to what we have experienced. With one difference, today we are not allowed to drop everything and run away. Taking away the most precious thing, our children, the joy of our hearths, the future of the country. This is not called election, this is subjugation, desecration of our rights.
In the 90s, I took an active part in all the events of the December movement and the months that followed, without having any intention of engaging in politics, and in fact – due to my age – without even having economic claims. What I could not accept and what made me absolutely determined in my resistance was the denial of political freedoms, the right of speech, the right to think differently, to choose the way of life, of education, the right to believe. We rejected this because we wanted to live as free people, with dignity. We went on hunger strike for the removal of Enver Hoxhe's name from UT, as a test of strength against the regime, and we won. So, we were the generation that stayed and won against the most brutal dictatorship of the east. We won because we dared! Because we stayed! Because we got together!"
Among other things, during her speech, Berisha's daughter said that in the name of the parental mission, we must fight this battle for our children.
"Is it our duty today once again, in the name of the parental mission, to fight this battle for our children? To teach them resistance to evil, to face it with dignity. To give them a legacy that will be worth to them regardless of where they will live. If today hope has been killed, it is our duty to restore it. To show that running away is not the solution, that man can reach any peak if he believes, defeat any evil if he stands and dares. Our children go to places where employment, health, education provide security, but we must not leave their home desolate. This land is their natural law inheritance given to them by God when they came into this world. They may become richer and more skilled where they are, but this remains their home. It is our duty to keep the house open for them."
In her speech, Malltezi said that it is time for the democrats to rise again and correct the mistakes of the past.
"To go back and correct our mistakes, to fix what was broken even by our indifference to evil. That one day, when they return, they will find their home welcoming and inviting. This requires us to stand up once again, no longer for ourselves, but for our children. The Democratic Party has always been the party of spirit. Therefore, I believe that in the ranks of its members and sympathizers, more than anywhere else, there are idealists who, just like 30 years ago, have within themselves the strength and motivation to stand up and make a difference. I am convinced that the need to restore legality and hope exceeds political interests and is already a demand of the left and the right. Today is the time of action for everyone."
Among other things, Argita Berisha said:
"You who have raised your families, join your strength in the political action of the Democratic Party so that we can once again raise the future of Albania together and return hope to its peak. As one of you, I know the strength you carry, the energy you convey. I know that with God's help, there is no goal that man cannot achieve, there is no evil that we cannot overcome".
