The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa , spoke today from Brussels about our country's progress regarding EU membership negotiations.

Antonio Costa said that enlargement to the Western Balkans is a clear priority for the EU as well as an important geostrategic investment for peace, prosperity and stability.

The President of the European Council said that the best way to guarantee prosperity, peace and stability in the Western Balkans is integration into the European Union.

For this reason, he said he will conduct a tour of the Western Balkans in mid-May.

"That is why I will personally visit the region in mid-May to visit the six countries of the Western Balkans to increase our cooperation and our joint efforts to achieve good membership results ," said the President of the European Council.

Antonio Costa: I am happy to be hosting Prime Minister Edi Rama today, because enlargement towards the Balkans is a clear priority for the EU and is the most important geostrategic investment for the peace, prosperity and stability of our country, and it is truly encouraging to see the progress that Albania has made on this journey.

Today we are opening another group of chapters and our ambition is to open even more groups of chapters to negotiate during this year because we have a very concrete calendar and we want to achieve it. This is very important for the EU, for Albania, a very important sign for the entire region because the best way to guarantee prosperity, peace and stability in the Balkans is in the European Union with its membership. That is why I will personally visit the region in mid-May to visit all six Balkan countries to increase our cooperation and our joint efforts to have good membership results.

This is a good opportunity to talk about the summit of the European Political Community that will be held on May 16. Europe is more than the EU, but it is increasingly important that we are all united because that is how we are stronger and the world needs a stronger Europe.
