The General Secretary of the Democratic Party, Enkelejd Alibeaj, in a statement to the media today, stated that Thursday's plenary session, where the majority passed several laws alone, was held in violation of the rules.
Alibeaj: It was not even the quorum for the normal and valid development of the parliamentary procedure. It became known to the public that the only interest of the majority was to pass the laws for the oligarchs, for their clientelistic interests, amid noise and chaos. Today, Albanians wanted to see the discussion of important issues in their interest. One of them is the amnesty law. The interest of those who benefit is great. Today in the plenary session, on the part of the majority, this law was not on the agenda.
According to Alibeaj, not including Amnesty in the agenda by the majority shows that the latter has no interest in discussing such a draft law. The DP, Alibeaj emphasized, stands by its position that the Amnesty law will have to be approved.
Alibeaj: It will have to be approved as it came from the government, from the Ministry of Justice in its initial version, and amendments should be added to that law, which also benefits the protestors. We were determined today to vote on the amnesty bill together with our amendments. We are determined to participate and vote in the next session as soon as possible.
Alibeaj emphasized once again that the PD will vote on an amnesty bill according to the initial version.
Alibeaj: We will vote for the initial version according to which no one benefits from those who are under criminal prosecution or have been convicted by the Court Against Crime and Corruption or are under criminal prosecution by SPAK.
