Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama says he plans to significantly reduce the intensity of construction on the Albanian coast, as an attempt to preserve the environment.

Asked by journalist Blendi Fevziu if he plans to leave land for development for the next generation, Rama implied that there is plenty of room for this as well, while saying that the developed areas along the coast are much smaller.

Prime Minister Rama pledged that there will be no commercial construction in the Porto Palermo area, except for some minor interventions that the government will carry out.

He said he will present "Renaissance 2.0", which envisages the preservation of some areas on the coast even though they are not part of national parks, as well as the reduction in the intensity of construction in response, in the coastal area.

"I'm sorry, but I believe you are one of those people who have crossed the coastline by boat. And you have seen that the developed areas are smaller than the rest. In this period, we have significantly increased the surface area, but the urban renaissance 2.0 will also begin with the part related to tourism, putting a new emphasis on the environment, the preservation of certain parts that may not be national parks. In Porto Palermo we have it under protection, we will only make three interventions. One intervention that came to us from a couple there, to restore and maintain three military barracks. One intervention to make the Cold War museum in the tunnel and one perhaps for the military barracks in the other part, but without resorts and villas.

"The first phase was Golemi, which was once an exclusive area, but it belongs to the past. Then came the phase of higher quality construction. Now we will enter a new phase, we will massively reduce construction on the coast, and we will move towards a tourism that brings more income and less pollution and damage," Rama declared.
