The Parliament of Albania organized the conference "30 years of partnership and progress: Albania, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission", where Prime Minister Edi Rama praised Venice as an "authority that helped Albania keep its compass in the right direction and an irreplaceable partner, which will continue to be a point of reference."
"Without the Venice Commission, it would have been impossible to carry out justice reform, a process that has not been carried out in depth in those countries that have attempted to do so. The Venice Commission has gained the power of imposition and institutions," Rama said.
Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi called the Council of Europe a key partner, while the Venice Commission said it has served as a professional and impartial reference, and requested the assistance of this commission for the new electoral reform.
"The Assembly is ready, in accordance with the good tradition of cooperation, to once again seek the opinion of the Venice Commission on the proposals that will emerge from this commission."
"We believe that only through an open process, based on standards and independent expertise, can a reform be achieved that strengthens public trust in elections and democracy," said Peleshi.
