Rumors of betrayal, history of scandals and difficulties in the Presidency, who
First Ladies

The "First Lady" in our country, more than a duty, is a title given to the wife of the President of the country.

Although mostly in the shadows, the First Ladies of Albania have been successful women, but generally attracted by the media focus. There have been cases when in addition to their protocol appearances, they have spoken in the media about stories of scandals, rumors, or difficulties. Albania is now ready to welcome another First Lady.

Armanda Begaj will hold this title for the next 5 years. As the first details about it have already started to be learned, we are bringing to your attention once again some of the First Ladies over the years. Excerpts from their stories, love stories, difficult days and the role in the Presidency…

Liri Berisha

Among the First Ladies of our country, Liri Berisha is probably the most famous. The wife of former President and former Prime Minister Berisha is still a media character. Her media appearances are rare and only for important events. Known as a peaceful lady and engaged in social causes, she has also run the Albanian Children Foundation for years. Last year she came to the Albanian public with the book, "Mother Teresa in my life."

Over the years, Liria has stood by her husband, publicly supporting him in his political challenges and commitments. However, he himself has chosen to be a little present in the media, rarely confessing to the public. "He has a lot of taste in clothes and often gives opinions even in the decoration of the house. Even the clothes we have always chosen together. One of his flaws is that his whole life has gone by very fast. There is a giant step. And when we go out together I can not walk at his pace. This has often been the reason for our quarrels perhaps. When we got out he was walking and I had to run to stand by his side. His biggest drawback I would say is his non-limitation of working hours. "His day lasts indefinitely. This has been a flaw that I knew from the beginning but that later began to aggravate the family a bit."

"He was and is a very gentle, loving and dedicated father. Even when he was a doctor he worked long hours, so I had to be more strict and regulatory with the children. When he returned home, joy came to our family. That's why we've enjoyed family dinners and still do today. I have always cooked very well because I had a passion and I cook with a lot of desire for my family. He ate nowhere except from my hand. He does not like lunches and dinners in restaurants. Now our way of eating has changed a bit because we eat diet. We mainly cook only vegetables with fish and meat. "Saliu has an extraordinary will that he shows everywhere, and as such he is very strict with food", Liria would reveal, in the years when Berisha was prime minister.

Lidra Mejdani

When Rexhep Mejdani became President of the country, little was known about his wife. However in education circles, Lidra was very well known as one of the most popular Mathematics teachers. Even after her husband took over the senior position, Lidra continued to continue her duties as a teacher in the 'Ismail Qemali' gymnasium.

During those years, the presidential family was quite withdrawn, limiting themselves to their duties and not preferring to be very present in the media. After many years, Lidra has spoken to the media about her engagement as the First Lady of the country. It seems that in addition to the added work, her perspective on Albania has also changed during the years of her husband's Presidency. "17 years have passed since those days, when Rexhep Mejdani was President, but we did what was possible in the conditions that were. Because you think it was the period 1997-2002, which was a difficult period for Albania.

But I also won a lot. At that time I thought that Albania was my family circle, I had to travel all over Albania, and I saw that there were many families in need, there was violence, there was no gender equality. And I had an awareness, that not only politics, but also beyond to do something for Albania to change. And one of my efforts has been to get women involved in politics. I had that dream of social equality, but they are not so enthusiastic about it. After I heard that women from Civil Society have entered politics, and they say I was afraid that when I got into politics, I would lose my femininity. So the environment changes. But I see a mediocrity, that does not come from what the party says, that does not eat the voice.

Mirela Moisiu

Alfred Moisiu was a surprise name when he was nominated for President. Perhaps for the first time, a figure outside politics was taking the top post in the state. But in this case, Albania did not have a First Lady, as his wife had passed away a few years ago. President Alfred Moisiu's ex-wife was called Milica Moisiu.

She was from Tirana and graduated from the Institute of Physical Education. She worked as a teacher and there are many who remember her as a prominent teacher in Tirana. Moses became President, just one year after he lost his wife Milica. Moisiu, elected president after an agreement between Berisha and Nano, was the second president among the 6 presidents of the country (along with Ramiz Alia), who was a widow during his presidential term. He had three daughters and a son.

At the official receptions, Moisiu carried his daughters, the well-known doctor Rubena Mosiu, but also Mirela Moisiu, who accompanied him mainly on official visits. Unlike Rubena, who is a well-known character in the country because of her profession, Mirela has been more attractive. She held the position of First Lady in official meetings, but has chosen to stay away from media noise, not preferring to be active in the media.

Teuta Topi

Teuta Topi had an attractive nature, she did not like attention and she confessed this from her first public appearance. The wife of President Bamir Topi, in the interview given as the First Lady of the country, stated that she was a very attractive guy and when she got everyone's attention, she felt a little embarrassed. "It bothers me a lot, to be honest. I feel more excited now talking to you than when Bamiri took the oath and took up his post as president. Now, unwittingly we are back in the spotlight. But I do not like the look very much, and being always darted.

I think I should be like that only when I have to be, and when it belongs to me, for very important things. I do not like my daily life to come to market. I would love to hide from this visibility. If I used to come to work and I was unseen by the eyes of others, now this has become a problem for me. Journalists have gone to the brother, to the father, to the neighbors. It seems to me exaggerated. It's a situation that is not pleasantly conveyed to me. "But now we live in a democracy and freedom of speech exists," Teuta said in her rare interviews. At that time there was a lot of talk about a divorce between them, so this was the moment when Teuta Topi explained once and for all that between her and the President everything was fine.

Our relationship goes well and we live with each other normally. We are very connected as a family, in all components. I did not feel good when I heard them. I have many friendly, very extended circles and everyone has come to ask me. They were worried about what they heard. It was clarified to everyone, that things were different and we were as always together. But of course such a rumor about a famous person would have such dispersal proportions, we could not imagine. We could not stop the spread. The talk gets given. -I think many things are conjectures. We are a very consolidated couple. I do not like to shout about this. I can tell you a fact. We were on the beach together and on the way back, we ran out of gas on the way. Then Bamiri and the girl went to be supplied. The next day the newspapers spoke that Bamiri had been seen on the street with a young girl. I think that getting involved in politics has its risks. "Politicians are always prejudiced," explained the country's first lady at the time.

Odeta Nishani

Odeta Nishani, held the position of director of Market Research and Tourism Statistics, at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports when she was elected First Lady of the country. Unlike other ladies, Nishani has been somewhat more open with the media, revealing from time to time the challenges that this post has had for her.

"The election was an unexpected moment in our lives and I did not know how to act," said the First Lady as she recalls the first moment when Bujar Nishani was proclaimed President of Albania. "Apart from beautiful things, there are many problems. Being the 'First Lady' in Albania is difficult, given what it represents. You do not have an assistant, you do not have an office, you do not have an assistant, it is not about the image, to have a stylist or hairdresser, you have to look for and find everything yourself, you have to adapt to the protocol of other countries. At each visit we get the program and the dress code and you have to hurry to adapt. ” And in fact the dress has been one of the main factors that have made Odeta Nishani part of the news on portals and media.

"I graduated from the faculty of civil engineering and I was not a person exposed to cameras, I did not like to be exposed or to be a media person. The beginning has been very difficult. Being in this position put me in front of the media, untrained, and for the sake of my husband I also felt the political blows. "Politics in Albania is a 'fierce men's war', but I did not think they would deal with me," concluded Mrs. Nishani.

Monika Kryemadhi leaves the baton to her daughter, Era

Monika Kryemadhi was the first woman to refuse to take up the post of First Lady. As her husband was sworn in as President of the country, she took office as chairwoman of the Socialist Movement for Integration Party. We all thought it would be the couple's eldest daughter who would take on this task, but that did not happen.

As far as is known, Bora is studying outside Albania and it must have been impossible for her to come, but the place of the first lady has not remained empty and why her age has decreased. It was the young daughter of the meta couple, Era, who took on this task, albeit at a young age. She has appeared alongside her father in important public appearances. However, on visits abroad and in other political engagements, Meta has appeared quite alone, not choosing to be accompanied by Era.

Armanda Begaj

Now with the election of the new President, Albania will have another First Lady. Armanda Begaj will have taken over this task, after her husband was elected President. Armanda Begaj was born in 1968 and has exercised several functions in the state administration as an employee, where among the latter she was also an IT specialist at the Supreme State Audit. The new presidential family consists of four members, where in addition to the elected President, Bajram Begaj and his wife, Armanda are also two sons 21 and 18 years old. Little is known about the new presidential family, however we are sure that during the years of the Presidency, we will discover new details from the First Lady, but also from the two sons of the presidential couple./Panorama
