Albanian influencer and model Oriola Marashi has publicly responded to a video she posted earlier that sparked backlash online. She explained that she had used the word 'gabi' without knowing it was offensive to the Roma community and decided to delete the video from her profile.

In an Instagram post, she writes:

“ In a video I posted earlier, I inadvertently used a word that I did not know was offensive to the Roma community. I have removed the video and I want to apologize if anyone felt hurt. I have great respect for every culture and community in my country. ”

This reaction comes after the numerous comments she received online, from followers asking her to change the term, or remove the video, as it is racist and offensive to the Roma community.

Some of the comments were:

On the clothes used, "gabi" is an abbreviation for the word "gabel", which I don't even like to write, but it's extremely racist and offensive.

Hello Ms. Oriola! My name is Dr. Kaim Hadroj and I am a lecturer in Romology studies at Bielefeld University. I saw a video of you in Paris where you said “to gabi in Lapraka”, the word gabi is discriminatory for the Roma minority in Albania. Legally, your video is considered to be promoting discrimination in this case. And if it is known, it is punishable by law. As the founder of the Vish šupata e mia initiative, I kindly ask you to remove that video with a negative impact on the Roma minority, which is beyond doubt. It would be good if you even apologized to this minority for using that discriminatory word. I hope we get a positive response from you!
