A recent study has revealed that ready meals and mass packaged bread increase the risk of cancer. Processed foods can increase your chances of disease even if you are at a healthy weight, especially ovarian cancer and brain tumors.

Other ultra-processed foods include bacon, chips, breakfast cereals, sweets and chocolate.

The funded study compared the diets of middle-aged people with their health records. It found that every 10 percent increase in calories from processed foods was associated with a two percent increase in cancer risk. For ovarian cancer, which affects 7,500 women each year, the risk increased by 19 percent.

The chances of an early death from cancer also increased with the amount of junk food, the researchers wrote in the journal eClinicalMedicine. The risk of dying from ovarian cancer was 30 percent higher in people who ate the most processed foods.

The new study comes after researchers found a link between sugary drinks and bowel cancer. It found that adults, especially women, who eat two or more to quench their thirst each day "double" their risk of bowel cancer before the age of 50.

Soft drinks, fruit-flavored drinks, and sports and energy drinks all pose a significant threat.

In November 2022, experts found that eating a healthy diet of vegetables can reduce the risk of bowel cancer by a fifth, but only if you are male.

Scientists at Kyung Hee University in South Korea found that colorectal cancer was 22 percent less likely in men who ate more fruits and vegetables compared to those who ate less.
