The best hospitals in the world for 2024

There aren't many decisions more important than choosing the right hospital to get the right care for yourself, or a loved one.

To help on this point, Newsweek has partnered with Statista for its annual ranking of the world's best hospitals, a ranking that began publishing in March 2019. This year, the list includes data for 2,400 hospitals in 30 countries. For the first time, Chile and Malaysia have been added to the ranking, which also includes the US, most of Western Europe and Scandinavia, 10 Asian countries, Australia and other countries in the Americas.

The data is organized by nation, but also lists the top 250 hospitals worldwide, the top 10 of which are particularly highlighted for their intriguing use of artificial intelligence to advance medical breakthroughs.

In the first two places are hospitals in the United States of America, namely: 'Mayo Clinic' in Rochester, Minnesota and 'Cleveland Clinic' in Ohio. Next is Canada with 'Toronto General' to leave the turn again to American hospitals and then to Germany, Sweden, France, Israel and Switzerland.

Each hospital's score is based on an online survey of more than 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospital patient surveys on their overall experience. The score also takes into account metrics for things like hygiene and patient-to-physician ratio, as well as a Statista survey of whether hospitals use Patient-Reported Outcome Measures, PROMs, which are standardized questionnaires filled out by patients to assess their experience and results.

The Newsweek-Statista ranking provides essential insights for patients, families and healthcare executives seeking profiles of an industry that will generate $4.24 trillion worldwide in 2024.
