Just petting them is good for health, activates the hormone of happiness and consequently reduces the chances of cardiovascular diseases, according to "Vanity Fair Italia".

In Italy, in addition to International Cat Day in August, National Cat Day is also celebrated on February 17.

Honored as gods by the ancient Egyptians, cats, both domestic and stray, are among the most widespread animals in the world.

But how can we know if a cat has "chosen" us?

Do we know how to interpret the signs that show their emotions and unconditional love?

"Cats "speak" to us in many ways, through vocalizations, scratches, rubs, tail hugs," said Manuela Michelazzi, director and veterinarian at Parco Canile Gattile in Milan.

Each of them, according to the doctor, is a message that tells us something important about the emotional world, of which we are the protagonists.

Vocalizations to express their feelings

What we call meows are vocalizations, they tell us about their desires.

And they can be diverse.

To express their wishes to us, cats meow.

These vocalizations, which are distinguished above all by tone, can express many different moods: fear, aggression, special requests.

The cat talks to us, asks us for attention, care, food and games.

The cat that chose us makes us part of its life and feelings.

Snoring, which is not always a pleasure

That wonderful snoring that in some cases seems like a mysterious and unique noise, a non-verbal communication that only cats give us, is not always a positive sign.

"They don't just snore when they're well, sometimes snoring is a symptom of illness," explained Michelazzi.

They should always be considered a request for attention which can also be a request for help.

In the most extreme cases, there have been cats that have snored on the verge of death.

Frictions leave their smell on us

Even when the elegant and cunning cat approaches us and rubs against us, it talks to us, and generally tells us that we are important to it.

This very special kind of physical contact has a meaning, the cat wants to leave us its smell and take ours.

That's why it comes close to our feet and rubs with the whole body. Thanks to the glands that release secretions with which cats are equipped, they release the smell by rubbing and at the same time they take ours and assimilate it.

Tail hugs show us that they have chosen us

The cat has another way of telling us "you are mine", through tail hugs.

The cats weaving around us and then curling their soft tails around our legs has a very important meaning.

"These are accompanying signals that express love to us.

A true declaration of love that they dedicate to the people they have "chosen", playmates or silent days, are the chosen ones accepted into the cat kingdom.

Cats are very selective animals. Even in the colony it is observed that they choose their friends, just as they identify their enemies.

And they are able to express these tendencies through communication signals.

They do the same with us, clearly showing who and what we are to them.
