Gerard Pique and Shakira last Saturday in a joint statement announced that they were divorcing after 12 years of relationship.

But Spanish journalist Jose Antonio Aviles has said the decision was one-sided.

According to the journalist, the decision to divorce was taken by Shakira and that her move surprised the Barcelona defender.

Referring to sources very close to the footballer, the journalist said:

"Someone very, very close to Piqué assured me that there was no infidelity on his part. Pique is even very surprised by the statement published by Shakira '

He also added:

"In recent years they have had an open relationship. Their agreement was 'you do what you want and I will do what I want, but in front of the public to introduce themselves as a couple'.

What Pique and Shakira said in their joint statement

"We sadly confirm that we are parting", this is how the couple's statement started, when they made it public on Saturday.

The Catalan and the Colombian star have two children together from their 12-year relationship, 10-year-old Milan and 7-year-old Sasha.
