What signs will tell you that lightning is close enough?

If you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Even if you do not hear thunder, you may be in danger.

How do you know how close the lightning is?

If you calculate the number of seconds between lightning and thunder and divide them by 5, you will learn the distance of lightning in kilometers: 5 seconds = 1.5 km, 15 seconds = 4.5 km, 0 seconds = very close.

Keep in mind that you need to be in a safe place when counting.

Rule 30:30

Remember the 30:30 rule. When you see lightning, start counting to 30. If you hear thunder before you reach 30, go inside.

Stop activities for at least 30 minutes after the last thunderstorm.
