A little more than a year ago, in May 2021, exactly 17 years after the farewell of "Friends", the protagonists of the series, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, reunited on HBO Max .

With 10 highly successful seasons and 236 episodes in total, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross became very famous. But fame has its dark side.

Of all the actors, Matthew Perry, who played the character Chandler Bing, was clearly suffering the consequences of an addiction to painkillers.

Today, in an interview for "People" magazine, the 53-year-old confesses everything, stressing that he thanks God that he is still alive.

Matthew Perry reveals that he was close to death about four years ago. At the time it was reported that the actor was suffering from a gastrointestinal perforation, but in reality he spent weeks fighting for his life after his colon burst from an overdose of painkillers. He spent two weeks in a coma and 5 months in the hospital.

"The doctors told the family that I had a 2% chance of living," the actor recalls.

This happened as a result of addictions that forced Perry to enter rehab a total of 15 times and undergo 14 surgeries.

"I have many reasons to stay sober. Just look at how low I am. If I had died, people would be sad but not surprised. And this is a very scary thing," says the 53-year-old.
