Friday the 13th, for years before the birth of Christ, has been considered one of the most unfortunate days of the year. For many people, this is the biggest nightmare that can happen on a one-year calendar.

For 2022, this is the first and only Friday, which comes after August 13, 2021, ie after 9 months. Friday, the 13th will be repeated again on 13 January 2023.

What is the symbolism of Friday the 13th?

Psychologists recognize this phenomenon and have defined this feeling in a single word - paraskavedekatriaphobia (Greek. Phobia from Friday the 13th), or otherwise the fear from the Friday the 13th.

One way to avoid any surprises is to stay in bed all Friday, according to psychologists, or do what many other people do - ignore superstition and do the same things as usual.

A game of numbers?

The origin of Friday, the 13th, and its consideration as an unlucky day, is in fact an ancient mystery.

The number 13 has been considered an unlucky number for many years, even before the birth of Christ. Unlike the number 12, which is historically known as the number of completeness (12 months of the year, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 hours of time, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles of Jesus, 12 descendants of Muhammad…), the neighbor of his, 13-a, is always seen as an exception.

But 13 also has an unfortunate biblical reference. Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus Christ, is supposed to be the 13th guest at his dinner.

Christ was crucified on Friday.

In the 14th century, Geoffrey Chaucer referred to Friday as an unlucky day: "A bad Friday."

Another fact that highlighted Friday's superstition was the publication of Thomas W. Lawson's novel, in 1907, on Friday. The novel focuses on the superstition, but also the panic that is created on Wall Street for Friday the 13th.

In numerology, too, 13-a is considered an irregular number and is the number used by witches for their meetings.

In many western countries, buildings avoid the 13th floor. Likewise, many homes, but also hotels, often do not have the number 13. This is also the case of Carlton in London, who has not marked the thirteenth floor.
