From September, gel manicure will be banned in the EU and Switzerland: It is

From September 1, 2025, TPO, the product behind semi-permanent nails, will no longer be sold. Furthermore, it has now been decided by the health inspectorate that products containing TPO, which were on the market, can no longer be used even by professional nail salons. This ban on TPO is a consequence of its new classification as CMR category 1B, toxic for reproduction.

This classification is determined by the European CLP (Classification, Labeling and Packaging) regulation, which classifies chemicals according to the highest hazard, regardless of their use.

There will be no more production, sale or use. The Directorate General for Competition, Consumers and Fraud Sanctions (DGCCRF) has declared a complete ban. Even stocks already held in salons must be disposed of immediately.

Until now, TPO was the well-kept secret of perfect application: quick drying, high shine, impeccable durability for weeks… But behind this shine, there was a dark side.

Published in May 2025, the European regulation "Omnibus VII" deals a radical blow to carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic substances in cosmetics.

From September, all products containing TPO will be withdrawn from the market and banned from use, even by professionals.
