Mario Salcedo

Mario Salcedo's life took an unusual turn in 1997, when after a successful career in finance, he decided to go on a cruise.

His first sea experience shocked him so much that two years later he gave up life on land and has since lived almost exclusively on board Royal Caribbean ships.

Salcedo, known as "Super Mario," is no ordinary tourist. He has turned his balcony cabin into his home and follows a daily routine: walking the deck, having a leisurely breakfast, reading the news, and managing his investments from his cabin. Even though he is retired, he continues to take care of his wealth and enjoy life.

He spends his afternoons with the crew, drinking a glass of "Whiskey" in the ship's bars or watching shows. One of his passions is marine photography.

But life on the cruise ship is not without challenges.

After years on the move, he suffers from "landing sickness," a neurological disorder that makes him feel jittery even when he's on the ground.

Also, the lack of a stable social circle can bring feelings of loneliness.

However, Salcedo has embraced the lifestyle and has no regrets about the expenses – around 100,000 euros a year. “On land, everything is very complicated. At sea, everything is solved,” he says.

Today, he has become a legend of the cruise world – a symbol of a freedom that few dare to choose.
