Joe Biden's granddaughter Naomi and Peter Neal were married in a private ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, attended by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

Naomi, 28, is a graduate of Columbia Law School. She is the eldest daughter of President Hunter Biden's son and his ex-wife, Kathleen Bull. Peter Neal, 25, who also studied law, was sent by Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign to the White House during Barack Obama's presidency.

The couple resides in Washington. They met in New York on a date with a mutual friend about four years ago and have been together ever since, according to the First Lady's office.

The last White House wedding — ceremony and reception — involving a member of the presidential family was in June 1971 when Tricia Nixon married Edward Cox in the Rose Garden with 400 guests.
