A sudden drop in subscriber numbers has prompted the Netflix platform to consider changes to the service it offers: Reducing password sharing and creating a low-cost, ad-supported subscription.

The changes that are expected to happen soon have been created to help Netflix regain the momentum it lost over the past year. The Netflix platform gained many subscribers at a time when states had imposed blocking measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Netflix's customer base fell by 200,000 subscribers during the January-March quarter, the first contraction to be recorded since broadcasting became available in most of the world outside China six years ago.

The decline came in part from Netflix's decision to withdraw from Russia in protest of the ongoing war in Ukraine. This resulted in the loss of 700,000 subscribers. Netflix forecast a loss of two million more subscribers in the current April-June quarter.

Currently a Netflix subscriber can share his / her password with other people who can view the content offered by this free platform.
