"It was just me and her mother on the day of the funeral", the sad
Arber Hajdari and Elsa

Left without a father, with only her mother and brother, in conditions of poverty that confronted her with bullying, Elsa only wanted a little hope for a better life. The opportunity came, the "Different Weekend" foundation did its best to ensure that the family from Delvina found some peace in Fier, in a new house.

At a moment when everything seemed to be shining, a sudden illness during the pandemic, after a fierce seven-day battle, took the little girl's life. Arbër Hajdari shares all this in the "Diela Ndryshe" column, while together with the moderator of "Diela Shqiptare", they travel to Korça for the last mission.

Arbër Hajdari: During the pandemic, I get a call from Elsa's mother and she tells me that Elsa is in the hospital in Tirana, in serious condition.

Ardit Gjebrea: What was it?

Arbër Hajdari: She had a very bad illness where doctors were forced to do some quick tests abroad due to the specificity of the disease and it was an already aggravated illness. I found myself in the hospital as soon as I received information from her mother, let's not forget that at that time Tirana was almost isolated due to the pandemic, the isolation from the pandemic had just begun because no one knew what this type of disease was. Elsa fought for her life for almost seven days.

Ardit Gjebrea: So fast?

Arbër Hajdari: So quickly. After seven days, Elsa passed away, with all the ways that the doctors tried to save her. Faced with this tragedy that happened to the family and that we were a part of, I locked myself in the house immediately that day and I didn't want my family members to see me in the severe psychological state that I was in. I was because we were connected to her, she was a child who had just started life, a child who had just smiled at them...

The loss of Elsa left a deep mark and pain on the founder of the "Fundjavë Ndryshe" foundation. Only he and her mother accompanied Elsa to her final home. After the funeral, Arbër Hajdari locked himself in the house for days and only one thought was on his mind: to leave the foundation.

With the help of those close to him, he found the strength to bounce back and face the next challenge, the departure of four close associates. In the meantime, Elsa has left her mark. That little girl's desire for knowledge has inspired a scholarship in her name that is dedicated to a cause.

Arbër Hajdari: It was just me and her mother on the day of the funeral because no one was allowed to go, it was the pandemic.

Ardit Gjebrea: Did only you and your mother follow him?

Arbër Hajdari: Just me and my mother. It may have been one of my most difficult moments because a week ago I had her in my arms and a week later I was in the cemetery of Fier with her mother, seeing her off for the last time. A very difficult moment for me and of course for her mother and brother who had lost their most precious person. I return to Tirana and decide to leave “Fundjavë Ndryshe”. I decide to leave, to disconnect because I felt I was no longer emotionally strong enough to cope with such burdens, especially when we deal with very difficult cases and the probability of it happening again was high. I spent almost 15 days without leaving the house, I stayed alone at home, I had disconnected communication with people.

Ardit Gjebrea: With the whole world.

Arbër Hajdari: With the whole world and I was in a long meditation phase to overcome that big gap… it felt like my soul was being killed and there were constant efforts from the staff, from the members, from my wife to say that you have done everything possible for Elsa and in the meantime you are becoming the reason that many other children are being saved. They started treating me with some meditation therapies so that I could reawaken and return to “Fundjavë Ndryshe” stronger, while four other members of the “Fundjavë Ndryshe” staff left “Fundjavë” that day.

Ardit Gjebrea: Really?

Arbër Hajdari: Yes, and I return and find myself running “Fundjavë” in the absence of the four main allies I had at work and I had to rebuild the “Fundjavë” team, the main one. From that moment on, we started year after year and we created a scholarship that we called the Elsa scholarship. We dedicated it like this because she was a girl who really wanted to go to school and we give this scholarship year after year, a full scholarship for a student who, due to lack of economic conditions, drops out of school or cannot realize the dream she has.
