Scary/ This is the dangerous island where no one is allowed to set foot

It is located about 30 kilometers from Sao Paulo, in Brazil, and has an area of about 430,000 square meters. It is called Queimada Grande and there is not a single human being living in it. It is one of the most dangerous places in the world and it is not surprising, since this island is inhabited by more than 15,000 snakes, writes A2.

At the end of the 20th century there lived a person who was responsible for the maintenance of the lighthouse, but he eventually left the area and the lighthouse was replaced by one that operated automatically. This place, also called Cobra Island, is home to one of the most venomous viper species in existence: Bothrops insularis or the golden-headed snake.

This snake can be up to 1.2 meters long and feeds on birds and small reptiles. Moreover, in extreme conditions it may even choose to feed on other snakes like it. Due to the isolated location in which it lives, it is considered an endangered species.

The venom of Bothrops insularis is up to five times more potent than that of Bothrops jararaca and can cause effects such as vomiting, intestinal bleeding, muscle necrosis, and cerebral hemorrhage. Fortunately, the fact of living alone on the island has made it possible for there to be no documented cases of bites in humans.

Queimada Grande was declared an area of ecological interest in the mid-80s, and tourist visits are strictly prohibited by the Brazilian government. The only people who can enter are scientists, although they need special authorization.

In this video from "National Geographic Brazil" you can perceive the beauty and danger that characterizes this country.
