People with type A blood are more likely to have a stroke before the age of 60 than people with other blood types.

Blood types determine the rich variety of chemicals displayed on the surface of our red blood cells. Among the most common blood groups are the groups named as A and B, which can be present together as AB, can be separately as A or B, and may not be present at all as 0.

Even within these main blood types there are subtle changes that arise from mutations of the responsible genes.

A genomic study has revealed a clear link between the gene for the Ai subgroup and early-onset stroke. The researchers compiled data from 48 genetic studies, which included approximately 17,000 people with stroke and about 600,000 stroke-free controls.

All participants in the study were between the ages of 18 and 59.

This study identified two locations associated with early strokes. One of these coincides with the genes responsible for blood type.

According to the data obtained from this discovery, people who have blood type A had 16% higher chances than those with other blood types, to be affected by early strokes before the age of 60.

While the people least at risk of these strokes are those with blood group 0, for whom the chances are 12% lower than the rest with other blood groups.

However, according to Science Alert, people with type A blood should not be alarmed as these strokes are very rare anyway
