The impact that sleep can have on your life is much greater than you might think. Therefore, you should take care of the quality of your sleep, and for this some rituals before you sleep can help you.

Healthy and successful people know that a few simple actions make them wake up rested and ready to start the day. That's why they always do these things before they sleep. What should you do according to them?

1. Set a schedule

The first and best step you can take to get a good night's sleep is to set a regular bedtime and stick to it – even on weekends and holidays. For best results, don't try to beat your own pace. Some people are programmed to stay up later, others to wake up early. Respect your body's preferences if possible.

2. Check your diet before bed

You're not designed to digest and sleep at the same time, so do your best to make sure you either eat dinner early, or eat lighter meals if you're going to eat later.

3. Be careful with drinks

No doubt you know that you should be careful not to consume caffeine late if you want to get a good night's sleep, but did you know that alcohol can also disturb your sleep? It may make you feel drowsy before bed, but it will make the second half of the night much less restful.

4. Turn off the devices

The blue light emitted by your computer and other devices can keep you awake, so turn them off an hour or two before bed (this will also help clear your mind of the day's worries before bed).

5. Take care of the bedroom

Your body's ideal sleeping environment is cool, dark and quiet, so do your best to eliminate noise and light from the bedroom. A comfortable bed is also undoubtedly essential. Choose a good mattress and pillow. And if you have pets, make sure they don't sleep next to your bed if you want a good sleeping experience.

6. Reflect

Your sleep subconscious is a powerful tool that can help you make tough decisions and dream up innovative ideas. Take some time to write, or just take a few moments to reflect on the issues you are facing, the day that has passed, or the hopes for tomorrow. Or try a simple meditation practice. Whichever method you choose, the goal is to have a clear mind before you go to bed.

7. Do a ritual before bed

Your body and mind need a signal that it's time to sleep, so perform a series of relaxing activities each night that act as your personal off switch. Reading is good, and so is taking a hot shower. Just avoid checking email or work before bed or any other potentially stimulating or stressful activity. This can increase cortisol levels making it harder for you to sleep.

8. Pull the muscles

This is especially important if you spend a good part of the day hunched over a computer, or otherwise in positions that leave you with a lot of tension. Also, yoga is a very good option.

9. Don't stress about deadlines

A regular bedtime is great, but don't be a slave to your schedule or stress out if you're not sleepy at the right time. Try to do a little more of your favorite relaxing activities before bed. Whatever you do, don't obsess over time.
