Missing for days, 19-year-old TikTok star's dismembered body found

A macabre event has shocked public opinion in Peru, where authorities discovered the lifeless body of a 19-year-old girl, TikToker Fabiola Alejandra Caicedo Piña, who had been missing since early June.

On June 9, workers at the La Atarjea water treatment plant in Lima discovered parts of Caicedo's body, placed in plastic bags and thrown outside the facility during a routine inspection.

Authorities were able to identify the body through her distinctive tattoos, including one on her arm with the phrase "Love me for who I am" and another on her body with the name "Paula Sophia."

Additional body parts were discovered on June 15, but as of June 19, some parts were still missing. Police suspect the victim was strangled before being dismembered and there are possible signs of torture, including cigarette burns on her feet and shins.

Investigators are looking into two main leads regarding the motive for the crime. One is Caicedo's possible involvement in a human trafficking network, a growing problem in Lima, where in recent weeks several bodies of young women have been found, some stuffed in suitcases near the Rímac River.

The other track is related to revenge: Caicedo moved to Peru from Venezuela in 2022, when she was just 16 years old, along with her boyfriend, Mayner Yoffrey Giménez Castrillo, 21 years older.

He died a few months after their arrival in Lima, under mysterious circumstances. His family has publicly accused Caicedo of being involved in his death, suspecting him of colluding with a new partner.

However, it has never been officially investigated and Castrillo's death remains an open case, amid suspicions of violence or suicide.

Police suspect that the night before her death, Caicedo was lured to another location under false pretenses, possibly by people she knew. Authorities are still analyzing security camera footage and questioning acquaintances.

No arrests have been made so far and authorities have not released the names of any suspects.
