Apple has discontinued production of the iPod, 20 years after introducing this iconic device. The U.S. tech giant said the iPod has been replaced by other devices making it excess.
Greg Josseiak, Apple's senior marketing executive, said the spirit of the iPod lives anyway.
"We have integrated an extraordinary music experience into all our products, from iPhone to Apple Watch to HomePod mini and mac, iPad and Apple TV.
"And Apple Music offers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio - there's no better way to enjoy, discover and experience music"
In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and was the first MP3 device to carry 1000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.
"With the iPod, Apple has invented a completely new digital music remanufacturer category that allows you to put your entire music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he said at the time.
Similar MP3 devices released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success as the iPod. Apple has released five versions of the iPod- Classic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.
