Do drunk people always tell the truth?
Luizi and Efi

To celebrate the participation in the final, yesterday, Efi, Luizi, Dea and Kristi celebrated and among other things, Efi got drunk, told Luizi how much she loves him and that she doesn't mind at all if he wins and of course, comments flooded of the "drunk always tells the truth" type.

But how true is this expression?

First, we must say that alcohol consumption, excessive or not, has biochemical and psychological effects on brain functioning. According to Gary Malone, an addiction psychiatrist at Baylor University: "The higher the blood alcohol level, the more primitive and hostile the drunk person's response will be."

So without question, alcohol can change the way we think, feel and behave. Moreover, it expands the freedom of communication, it overcomes the defense mechanisms that we put on ourselves when we are sober and at the moment when it has had its effect, it gives us the feeling of happiness and euphoria. But even though it has this effect, it doesn't mean that alcohol brings out the real person inside us.

Indeed, alcohol can release a part that we keep hidden inside ourselves, for various reasons, but we cannot say that it brings out all the truths. Behavior under the influence of alcohol does not reveal the true nature of the person who consumes alcohol, even in many cases, it leads him to show non-dominant thoughts and feelings, from which he tries to detach himself. This can be proven thanks to impulses and inappropriate, sometimes even criminal behavior that different individuals can do under the influence of alcohol.

According to Allen Lobo, researcher at the Indian Institute of Science: "There are few people who experience sensations unchanged by this effect." He gives the example of an introverted person who, when he drinks, acts very differently from his character, as he can become very social. Thus, the action of the introverted person is totally out of his nature, and even embraces a new character.

In support of the above thoughts, even Joshua Gowin, an expert at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse, when asked: "Why do some people, when they drink, become awkward, some loveable and some have inappropriate behavior?", answered: "The way different individuals react to external factors when they are drunk is an exaggerated form, since they have lost a large part of control, consciousness and impulse."

 In conclusion:

 - People who are under the influence of alcohol may act differently than usual, but this does not mean that they are showing their true selves.

 - Alcohol causes people to challenge defense mechanisms and not be restrained, so in some cases they behave impulsively.

 - Alcohol pushes people to behave according to thoughts and feelings, which they usually try to hide or detach from./ Anabel.al
