The 41-year-old woman died to give birth to the twins, the husband wrote to the doctors

The husband of a woman in Brindisi, Italy who died after giving birth to her twins on December 22 has written a letter to the team of doctors who assisted in the birth, even though his partner's end was tragic.

The letter was written to the resuscitation ward where his wife was admitted as a sign of thanks for taking care of her.

"After seeing the tears in your eyes I realized your humanity and how much you sweated and studied to find a way to give Viviana hope," the man wrote, among other things, in his letter that was published on the hospital's Facebook account.

For Christmas, he received an unexpected phone call from Pope Francis, who gave him a message of support but also hope moving forward for the two little ones.

"Viviana was an extraordinary wife and mother. I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to meet him. She loved life but above all she loved her family so much that she sacrificed her life to give it to two fantastic creatures: Edoardo Maria and Emilia Maria. Indeed, all these characteristics of hers will never die… It is not fair that the two twins never get to know their mother, nor that a little six-year-old girl (Emma Maria) can no longer hug its star.

But behind all this pain, behind all this injustice there is still a positive aspect. After meeting all of you, whose names I do not remember, but who for five long and hopeful days were the guardian angels of my wife, the mother of my children. Seeing the tears in your eyes, I understood all your humanity and how much you sweated and studied to give hope to Viviana. But unfortunately as you have learned, in medicine two plus two is never four. In any case, I feel obliged to thank you on behalf of myself and my daughter and my entire family for the dedication, professionalism and humanity that make you real guardian angels in flesh and blood. With love Giacomo", the letter read.

The letter deeply touched the staff of the Intensive Care Unit, who then posted it on Facebook.
