Flirting is a habit that we should not lose, even if we live in a relationship for ten years. In this case, of course, attention and flirting should be directed to our partner rather than another person, because any relationship remains more alive and vital if both partners do their best not to fall into routine and boredom. However, flirting is not only a "catch-up" activity, therefore the exclusive privilege belongs to those who are single, but it knows neither age nor boundaries. But there are some things you need to know and keep in mind for our approaches to be successful and achieve the desired goal.
Why is he flirting?
According to a University of Illinois study, flirting is done for six different reasons: sex, fun (winning a person is like a sport), exploration (finding out what it would be like with that person), relational reasons (deepening the relationship) to increase self-esteem and functional reasons (get something from the other).
Men flirt primarily for sexual favors, while women are driven primarily by relational reasons.
A matter of style
Another study, this time from the University of Kansas, shows that there are five different "catching" styles: the traditional style, in which you wait for him to make the first move; physical, in which we try to come into tangible contact with the person we are interested in; the honest approach, in which we try to open up to him and make him open up with us; fun (in which it is based on jokes and play); and the polite one, where we behave politely and without making any allusion to sex.
Visual contact
It is a very important and essential element. An uninterrupted shared gaze for at least two minutes with a stranger can increase the feeling of attraction exponentially. We also pay attention to body language: it is easy to lie with words, but our gestures inevitably show our self-confidence and our weaknesses. To be successful you need to have confidence, smile (not too much!) and think positively.
Expressions in the foreground
Even before starting the conversation, we can make a good impression with our attitude, especially with our appearance and facial expression. A study conducted in 2011 by psychologist Jessica Tracy of the University of British Columbia found that heterosexual men and women distinguish many of the facial expressions they find most attractive. In general, women appreciate expressions of happiness, while for men it is among the least attractive. Men appreciate expressions of pride, while women hate them; interestingly, both sexes find expressions of shyness and even shame relatively attractive.
Conversation
Starting to speak is one of the most delicate things. Some people prefer a direct approach (for example: "You are very nice, have a drink with me?"), and those who prefer harmless questions on a general topic, such as a question about their favorite band. Men usually lean towards the direct attack, while women appreciate a more gradual approach. Be careful, if we choose the path of questions: after a very careful first approach, it is good to move on to something more intimate and personal (without exaggerating).
Watch out for the weather
It may seem curious and strange, but an experiment, conducted by the French psychologist Nicolas Gueguen, has shown that the sun also affects. A group of young men were asked to bring the women along the road to ask for their phone number. Half of the volunteers "operated" in a sunny climate, the others in a cloudy day. The success rate has been better in sunlight. A Light Touch – A small, light physical touch can make all the difference. A friendly touch, such as just a nudge with the shoulder, can let us know if it's appreciated. If the other person doesn't back down, you can move on to a more personal gesture, such as a touch on the forearm or a hug around the shoulder or waist. If we are lucky then, we can go even further…
Eyes on the wardrobe
In an evening where you want to flirt, appearance is essential. If the occasion and the place are formal, a certain charm is a must: the tie for him is a little awkward, but only if we are in a really very elegant place: all other occasions are excessive. But t-shirts and sports suits are also not appropriate, even if the context is informal: the right is, as always, in the middle, for both men and women.
Wear red
It may be a fiery lipstick or a red outfit, but it is sure to hit the heart. Red is a color that expresses power and confidence. But beware: a woman wearing this color also conveys the idea of being more open to the possibility of a sexual experience. Of course the cell phone, turned off – Last but not least: it is imperative to turn off the cell phone. There is no worse newbie attraction killer than the constant annoyance of ringtones or notification beeps. The signals, even if we ignore them, are an index of harsh and offensive distraction.
