Massive fire in a 10-story building in Belgium, several dead and dozens injured

Several people have died and many others have been injured after a massive fire broke out in a 10-story building in the city of Antwerp, Belgium.

The fire broke out on the eighth floor of the building in the Linkeroever neighborhood. A large cloud of thick smoke rose from the building, as emergency crews worked to evacuate residents.

A video released from the scene shows the dramatic moment a resident climbs down from his balcony through the window of a neighboring apartment, in an attempt to escape the black smoke.

According to police, more than 200 people live in this building.

"We were forced to stay isolated in the apartment and waited on the balcony. The fire brigade arrived about 10 minutes later and rescued us from the balcony using their ladder," said one of the residents.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the exact number of victims.
