Vice President JD Vance has hosted "The Charlie Kirk Show," the show of the Republican activist who was shot and killed last week at Utah Valley University.
Vance announced Sunday in a post on "X" that he was "honored to host The Charlie Kirk Show" to pay tribute to his friend. Speaking from his office in the White House complex on Monday, Vance said he was "replacing someone who cannot be replaced" as he opened the show.
"But I'll try to do my best," Vance said.
Kirk, a conservative activist, was killed last week during a Utah Valley University event hosted by his organization, Turning Point USA, in Orem, Utah. The 31-year-old was close to Vance, along with President Trump and his family.
After his death, Kirk's body was transported on the vice presidential plane, Air Force Two, to Kirk's home state of Arizona.
Vance canceled a planned trip to New York to mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks, to fly to Utah to retrieve Kirk's body.
With other political commentators, this episode focused on Kirk's life and work, emphasizing that he was a guy who loved free speech and wanted even disagreements to be resolved through dialogue. "Where dialogue dies, civil war begins," Kirk often said.
