Zelenski meets with Duda in Warsaw!

Accompanied by his wife Olena Zelenska, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski arrived in Poland for his first official visit. They were welcomed in Warsaw by Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda. Zelenski then said he hoped the borders between Poland and Ukraine would be opened.

In the early days of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, Polish settlements near the border "opened their doors and there were no borders between us," Zelenskiy said during a meeting with Duda. According to him, this is the beginning of the lack of borders between neighboring countries in the future.

Duda presented Zelenski with Poland's highest decoration, the Order of the White Eagle. He receives this order for his merits in deepening Polish-Ukrainian relations, his commitment to security and the protection of human rights, Duda said in his tribute.

According to Duda, Poland wants to provide Ukraine with a total of 14 MiG-29 fighter jets. Eight of these aircraft have already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and another six MiG-29s are being prepared for delivery. Zelenski meanwhile invited Polish companies to work in Ukraine even before the end of the war, in order to improve their position in the market. In this context, the Ukrainian president called Poland a key partner for the reconstruction of the country.

Zelenski's program also includes a meeting with the head of the Polish government, Mateusz Morawiecki. We will talk about defense, economy, cross-border transport, including rail connections and expanding border crossing opportunities," Zelenskiy's spokesman said.

In the evening, Zelenski and Duda will meet at the Royal Castle in Warsaw people from Ukraine who have found refuge in Poland to flee the war. Both will give speeches there. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Poland has taken in about 1.6 million war refugees from neighboring Ukraine.

This is Zelensky's third trip abroad since the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. In December, he went to Washington. In early February, Zelenski first held talks in London and Paris before heading to Brussels for a special EU summit.

NATO wants to help Ukraine in the long term

NATO is developing a new support program for Ukraine, attacked by Russia. The planned multi-year initiative should help ensure deterrence and protection, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference after consultations at a meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.

Regarding the current situation in Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that Russia has not changed course. Putin obviously thinks he can wait until Western support for Ukraine ends. The meeting in Brussels, however, underlined once again the Alliance's continued commitment to the country. "NATO will stand by Ukraine as long as necessary," said the Norwegian, inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski to the upcoming summit of the military alliance in July in Vilnius./ DW
