The Russian attack on Kiev used a ballistic missile manufactured in North Korea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

He said preliminary information indicated that a North Korean ballistic missile was used during the overnight Russian airstrike that killed at least 12 people in Kiev.

"Debris removal operations are still ongoing in Kiev after the Russian airstrike with missiles," the Ukrainian leader said in a social media update on Thursday. He said rescue teams and emergency services were continuing to work at the scene.

"According to preliminary information, the Russians used a ballistic missile manufactured in North Korea. Our special services are verifying all the details."

If the information that this missile was manufactured in North Korea is confirmed, this will be further proof of the criminal nature of the alliance between Russia and Pyongyang.

"They kill people and torture lives together - this is the only meaning behind their cooperation. Russia constantly uses such weapons - missiles, artillery. In return, Pyongyang got the opportunity to make its weapons more deadly in real combat conditions," Zelensky declared.
