VIDEO that sparked controversy: Young people in Kosovo desecrate the red-black

A video showing several young people stepping on and driving over an Albanian flag thrown on the ground has become a topic of discussion and criticism in Kosovo.

In the video published on social media, some young people throw the flag on the ground and then drive over it, desecrating the Albanian flag.

What has angered the citizens has been the inaction of the Police, who, after arresting them, immediately released them.

Shaqir Bytyqi, spokesperson for the Prizren region Police, told media in Kosovo that two minors were involved in this incident and that the case was registered in Studençan, Suhareka.

"On 23.07.2025, the Police received information and video recording related to an inappropriate action against the national flag by two minors in Studençan, Suhareka. After the immediate reaction, the minors were interviewed by the police in the presence of their parents and admitted the action, emphasizing that they had no intention of denigrating and that they regretted it," said Bytyqi.

The actions of the minors also provoked a reaction from the KLA's own fighters. In a statement from the organization, it is said that the case reflects a deep moral crisis:

" We, the categories that emerged from the KLA war, react with deep indignation and harsh condemnation to the act of desecration of the national flag by some irresponsible individuals in the city of Suhareka.

The red and black flag is the symbol of blood and sacrifice, the symbol that inspired an entire people for freedom, that rose above the barricades, and in the heart of every Albanian who did not bow to the invaders.

This act constitutes a grave insult to the memory of our Martyrs, contempt for the values of the liberation war, and severely provokes national morality, which cannot pass without responsibility.

We, together, demand immediate response from law enforcement and justice institutions to identify and punish the perpetrators of this ugly act.

We publicly call for this case not to be relativized, because it is a reflection of a deep moral crisis that must be treated seriously and not with indifference. We emphasize that the red and black flag is not just a symbol of a state or time, it is our national identity itself .
