Accused of money laundering, US lawmaker George Santos pleads not guilty

Republican lawmaker George Santos, after his arrest three days ago, has pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud, money laundering and theft of public funds. 

Foreign media reports that Santos is expected to be released on bail against a bond of 500,000 dollars.

"This is the beginning for me to defend myself. We have an indictment, we have the information that the government wants to pursue me and I will comply. I have been convinced throughout this process," said Santos.

Just three days ago, Republican congressman George Santos surrendered to authorities in federal court on London Island. He is charged with seven charges, 3 for money laundering, 1 charge for theft of public funds and 2 charges for making false statements in the House of Representatives.
