President Donald Trump has expressed anger and disappointment over the Israeli attack on Doha, saying he was "very unhappy with every aspect of it."
Speaking to reporters in Washington last night, he made his displeasure clear.
"I'm not happy with this whole situation at all. It's not a good situation, but I'm saying this. We want the hostages back, but we're not happy with the way it happened today," he said.
"Nothing surprises me, especially when it comes to the Middle East," Trump added.
In an earlier post on his social media account, Trump wrote that the decision to attack was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not him. He explained that by the time his administration was notified of the attack by the US military, it was already too late to stop the bombing.
He added that the unilateral bombing of Qatar, which he described as a strong ally and friend of the United States, served neither Israel's nor America's goals.
President Trump said he had spoken with both the Israeli prime minister and the Emir of Qatar to assure them that such an attack would not be repeated on their territory.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also condemned Israel's attack on the Qatari capital Doha, which targeted Hamas members, stating that Israel violated international law and Qatar's sovereignty, Anadolu reports.
"Israel's attack on the Hamas negotiating delegation in Qatar has once again clearly demonstrated the blind fury of (Benjamin) Netanyahu's government and its intention to deepen conflict and instability," Erdoğan said on social media.
Erdogan stressed that Turkey stands with the Palestinians and its ally, friend and strategic partner, Qatar, with all its means, and added that those who make terrorism a state policy will never succeed.
"We will stand firm against Israel's reckless actions that are dragging the region into disaster, and we will continue to defend peace, international law and the freedom of the Palestinian people at all costs," he said.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli military said it carried out a "precision strike targeting the senior leadership" of the Palestinian group.
Qatar condemned the "cowardly" attack, noting that the attack targeted residential buildings housing members of Hamas' political bureau.
The Gulf state, along with the US and Egypt, has played a central role in efforts to broker an end to Israel's war in Gaza, which has killed over 64,000 Palestinians since October 2023.
