Two brothers, aged 34 and 42, have been arrested by the Carabinieri in Quarto, near Naples, on charges of murdering their father, Antonio Di Gennaro , 71.
The victim's body was found hidden in a crate on the terrace of his children's home.
The incident was discovered after the 71-year-old's partner reported him missing to the police.
Investigations revealed that the father was murdered on the morning of June 3, following a suspected plot by the two brothers, who allegedly gave him a sleeping pill laced with coffee and then suffocated him with a pillow after he refused to give them their late mother's pension money, Italian media reported.
The two arrested, Michele Di Gennaro , a biomedical engineer, and Andrea Di Gennaro , a personal trainer, have no criminal records.
During questioning, they admitted responsibility for the serious incident.
The Carabinieri discovered the body after a search of the house in Via Cicori , a central area in Quarto. Investigators are continuing their investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the tragic death.
