A Jewish restaurant in central Athens was allegedly targeted at terrorists linked to Iran.

Since 2020, at least 33 such attacks have been recorded in European and US countries, which either local or Israeli authorities claim iranian agents were involved. The targets include Israeli citizens, Jewish organizations, as well as Iranian dissidents and figures who oppose the Tehran regime.

One of those cases concerns an athens attack plan that targeted the building housing the Chabad Jewish center and a restaurant. According to evidence uncovered by Greek authorities, Syed Fakhar Abbas, a Pakistani living in Iran, had recruited another Pakistani, Syed Irtaz Haider, who resided in Greece, with the intention of carrying out the attack on the building.

According to the document Abbas was working for a group that would pay around 15,000 euros for murder. The two men exchanged WhatsApp messages in January 2023, in which they allegedly discussed whether to proceed with an arson or explosion attack.

"Do your job in a way that you leave no room for complaints from them," the document read.
According to the evidence, Abbas appeared to be preparing his liaison, a fellow Pakistani national named Syed Irtaza Haider.

In late 2022, Abbas pressured Haidr to send images of the Athens restaurant. The two-storey building, on a side street in a frequented part of the capital, houses the Jewish center, which has a prayer room and restaurant.

Greek authorities arrested Haider and another man of Pakistani origin in 2023, speaking of "disruption of a terrorist network that was run from abroad and intended to cause human casualties."
