The situation created by the masked Serbian extremists who prevented citizens with Kosovo IDs from transiting to Serbia through the border crossing points of Bërnjak and Merdara has resulted in a "storm in a glass".
About 24 hours after they undertook these acts, which were baptized as an action in protest against the actions of the Kosovar authorities in the north of Kosovo, the Serbian associations withdrew, causing normalcy to be restored in Bërnjak and Merdarë.
It was the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Svečla, who announced that the blockades by masked persons at the border points within the territory of Serbia have been removed.
Since the situation appears relatively calm, the authorities in Kosovo have decided to reopen these two points for the normal movement of vehicles and people.
"After receiving the announcements that the blockades created by masked extremists that were placed yesterday in the territory of Serbia have already been removed and seeing that there are no obstacles to traffic from and to the border points of the Republic of Kosovo, we made the decision to open for circulation of border points Merdare and Bërnjak. Order and law, peace and security, corner by corner and on every border of our Republic", writes Sveçla on Facebook.
The organizers of the blockades want Kosovo to withdraw the police from the Serb-majority municipalities in the north, to allow the use of the Serbian dinar currency, which was banned at the beginning of this year, and to allow the work of parallel Serbian municipalities.
