The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, has said that the bloc does not rule out the possibility that Kosovo will face other measures, if the Government of this country does not fulfill the international requirements.

"There are a number of measures, or proposals for a number of measures. Some of them have already entered into force immediately. Some of them are still being discussed and the member countries will implement them gradually, if there is no change in the approach of the Kosovo authorities. The spectrum is relatively wide", Stano said in a press conference.

According to him, the measures taken against Kosovo are not sanctions or restrictive measures in the classic sense.

Stano has said that the measures are temporary, and are a response to the "failure" of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to take concrete and immediate steps to reduce tensions in the northern part of Kosovo.

Some diplomatic sources have told Radio Free Europe on Tuesday that the European Union has prepared initial measures, such as sanctions against Kosovo due to the disregard of requests for immediate steps by the Government of Kosovo to reduce tensions in the north.

According to these measures, the sanctions will include the suspension of invitations for Kosovo's participation in high-level events and bilateral visits by the European Union and member countries. There will be meetings only when they need to be held to focus on addressing the crisis in northern Kosovo and steps to find a solution.

Tensions in the north of Kosovo have been high since May 26, when the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north entered the municipal buildings. Local Serbs have opposed something like this and have been protesting continuously in front of municipal buildings since May 29.

Asked why the EU is not taking measures against Serbia, which "does not implement the agreement with Kosovo, incites problems in Bosnia-Herzegovina and does not support sanctions against Russia", Stano said that these issues should not be mixed with one another. - the other.

Asked to comment on Kurti's criticism of the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, that he is not behaving as an impartial facilitator, but "comes with Serbia's demands", Stano said that he does not comment on the statements. of the parties and that "Lajcak was appointed and received the mandate from 27 EU countries, and on behalf of the EU, he carries out his mandate in an impartial manner".

The diplomatic sources of the EU have said that the member states are not obliged to implement the measures towards Kosovo, but some of them have already started to apply some restrictive measures. /REL
