French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated today that "the future of Ukraine cannot be decided without the Ukrainians", just a few days before the long-awaited summit between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, which will take place on August 15 in Alaska.
Through a post on the X platform, Macron said he had held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, focusing on the diplomatic situation ahead of the US-Russia bilateral meeting aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
"Europeans must also be part of the solution, because their security is at risk," Macron wrote, announcing that he had also spoken with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
On the other hand, President Zelensky also confirmed the conversation with his French counterpart through a post on Telegram. He emphasized the importance of international transparency in the face of Russian diplomacy.
"We exchanged our views on the diplomatic situation. It is really important that the Russians do not manage to deceive anyone again," Zelensky wrote.
The summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska is expected to be one of the most important diplomatic meetings of the year, with attention focused on the conflict in Ukraine and territorial issues remaining pending.
