Chinese student kills 8 and injures 17 after he failed exam

Eight people have been killed and 17 others injured in a knife attack on a college campus in eastern China on Saturday.

The event occurred at about 6:30 p.m. at the Wuxi Professional Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing city, Jiangsu province, according to the police statement.

A video posted online shows several people lying motionless on the ground, some of them surrounded by onlookers as screams are heard in the background.

According to the police report, the suspect has been arrested, and the cause is suspected of not taking an exam and a graduation certificate and dissatisfaction with the practice compensation.

China, a country of 1.4 billion people, has one of the lowest levels of violent crime in the world, partly due to strict gun controls and robust mass surveillance.

Last Monday, 35 people were killed after being rammed by a car in the southern city of Zhuhai.
