Today, early local elections are being held in the north of Kosovo, where 19 voting centers are planned to be opened, of which 13 will be alternative or so-called "containers".
Early local elections are being held in the four municipalities with a Serbian majority, more specifically in North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposavic.
A few minutes after 7:00 a.m., some voting centers started to open, while in some others there are delays, due to the non-arrival of election materials.
There are ten candidates in the race, of which only one is from the Serbian community. She is Slagjana Pantovic, independent candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Zveçan.
Lista Serbe (the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo), does not participate in the elections and has called on Serbian citizens to boycott the process. Official Belgrade made similar calls.
The municipalities in the north remained without mayors since November of last year, when the Serbian representatives in that area resigned from their jobs, due to disagreement with a decision of the Government of Kosovo to re-register cars with illegal Serbian license plates.
