A DNA test has reunited a Texas woman with her family, ending a mystery that lasted more than 50 years.

News of an incredible story with a happy ending comes from the US. It's about 53-year-old Melissa Highsmith, who was kidnapped by her nanny in Fort Worth when she was just 22 months old. After 51 years, she has found her parents and siblings. Footage of the meeting was published on the Facebook profiles of Melissa's family members, who had not stopped looking for her all these years.

"We thought we would never see him again," they said.

It was 1971 when Melissa's mother placed an ad in the newspaper for a nanny who could look after her daughter while she was at work. When the woman who answered the ad appeared at the door, Melissa's mother was not home and it was her roommate who handed the little girl over to the babysitter, who then disappeared without a trace.

The family never gave up hope of finding Melissa and threw her a party every year on her birthday. Until September of this year.

The Highsmith family received an anonymous message informing them that the woman was in Charleston, more than 2,000 kilometers from where she was abducted.

The DNA test and other tests confirmed Melissa's identity and the family was able to embrace her again after 51 very long years.
