Another new eruption occurred overnight on Etna, where the Voragine crater recorded an increase in strombolian activity, which had resumed in the late afternoon and intensified until it turned into a lava fountain and released an ash cloud about 5 kilometers high, which is distributed in the East-South-East direction.
The ongoing phenomena are observed and monitored by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etna Observatory, in Catania. Volcanic tremor values are still high, but the trend is currently down.
Etna, one of the world's most active volcanoes, has seen intense activity in recent days, lighting up the sky near the city of Catania, while Stromboli on the northern coast of Sicily has spewed lava into the sea.
