Two parents were arrested by the Carabinieri in Rimini after being accused of forcing their daughter, who had just turned 18, to accept an arranged marriage in her homeland, Bangladesh.

In addition, the parents allegedly encountered resistance from the girl on this issue and therefore beat and even drugged her.

According to investigations by the Carabinieri of Rimini, the young girl, forced into an arranged marriage in her homeland by her parents, arrived in Italy at the age of 7. In December, she was tricked into traveling to Bangladesh. Her parents, using the excuse of visiting her sick grandmother, instead set her up with a man 10 years her senior, who was supposed to be her husband.

The girl, who was also in love with a 23-year-old Italian man living in Forlì, had repeatedly refused, but once she arrived in Dhaka, relatives took her documents and credit card. Monitored, threatened and constantly abused, until she was forced to marry, her life was completely turned upside down, to the point that the young woman was forced to take drugs and sedatives that induce pregnancy, in an attempt to break her will.

Thanks to a friend, she managed to contact the women's health department's counseling center and a volunteer at an anti-violence center, and through her, the carabinieri and the Italian prosecutor's office.

A turning point for the girl came when, given the difficulty of getting pregnant, her parents agreed to let her return to Italy for a while.

After landing at Bologna airport with her parents, the girl was immediately taken by the carabinieri and taken to a secret location. While her parents were found in their apartment and placed under house arrest.
