The number of dead and injured has increased from the explosion registered this afternoon on "Beyoglu Istiklal" street, near "Taksim" square in Istanbul, Turkey.

The governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, through a post on social networks, clarified that at least 6 people lost their lives from the explosion and that 53 others were injured.

"Unfortunately, in the explosion that happened today on Istiklal Street, the number of dead has increased to 6 and the number of injured to 53. We wish God's mercy for those who lost their lives and speedy recovery of the injured. Developments will be shared with the public." he writes on Twitter.

Regarding this tragic event that has shocked the whole world, a reaction has also come from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He says that from the first data we are dealing with a terrorist attack and that the perpetrators will be punished as they deserve.

President Erdogan: "Efforts to subjugate Turkey and the Turkish nation through terrorism will not achieve their goal today, nor tomorrow, as they did not yesterday. Let our nation be sure that the perpetrators of the incident on Istiklal Street will be punished as they deserve. Although it may be wrong to call it terrorism in absolute terms, the first data signals that it may be terrorism".
